Evaluation Question 3

Here is the video of the screening that we edited to form part of our evaluation

Evaluation Question 1

Here was our group response to the question:

Videos we've referenced in our evaluation

JLS - Beat Again

JLS - One Shot

Copyright

We intially tried to email Sony asking for copyright permission for the song 'Just got Paid'. Unfortunately they did not get back to us and so we were left unsure wether it would allowed on youtube.

However after placing our video on Youtube Ms Blackborow recieved an email that the content had been accepted and we were allowed to keep our video up without breaching any copyright issues. This has solved any issues we had.

Media Screening Session

In today's lunchtime we had our first screening of the media video, the turn out was really good and we managed to fill the room completely. We set up all the desks ad chairs and got the video and lights sorted so that when the audience arrived we had made it as easy as possible.

We played the video through once and had a very positive feeback and a lot of laughs! We then asked the audience to watch it for the second time but fill out a questionaire this time.

The feedback we got from the questionaire was really helpful. Most people rated it 9 or 10 out of 10 and everyone said that they really liked it. We tried to get a variety of gender and ages to the screening to make our feeback more accurate.

Here are a few examples chosen from the questionaires that were filled out:

Facebook Event Page

In order to let our audience know about the screening on Wednesday we have created a Facebook event page with details. We have around 70 people clicked attending so we are hoping for a big turn out.

Post- production

All our footage looks good we have now completed all 3 shoots and have more then enough footage that will work. We have 3 weeks to the production deadline and we are confident that we will meet this. We are splitting the tasks up between us and hopefully this will work well so that we complete each task easily and make it all look as professional as possible

Shoot 2 Reflections

Yesterday was our second shoot. We knew that we had quite a lot missing from our initial shoot, primarily close ups of the band members, so we focused on that. This was done by running through the entire song for each member and shooting them in close up, as well as some close ups of the dance routine. We set up the lights in the same way as the first shoot, but tried to use the hazer more becuase we thought that it looked much better. We all agree that we got everything we needed from the shoot, and are happy with the results.

Shot List

This is the shot list that we are usuing on our shoots to make sure we get everything done.

Shot List

Detailed Lyric Anaylsis

We have done a break down of our lyrics and the timing of the lines and words which will help us out a lot when we are shooting. This helps us know the shots we need and the order in which they need to be put in.

Actor Contract

This is the contract we got all 5 actors to sign so that they knew what this project was about and we had a mutual agreement with all our actors and group.

Technical - Extras

Here is some ideas regarding kit that we would like to hire for our shoots:

Haze Machine - £30/day http://www.rkdosoundandlight.co.uk/effects_hire.html

  • This is the one piece of kit that we feel we really need, as it will help us create a more professional looking set
  • It is similar to a smoke machine, but creates a much finer haze that fills the entire room, as opposed to thick, localised clouds
  • When light shines through it, it creates beams in the haze as the light is reflected off of the particles of the cloud

  • Will allow us to create much more dramatic shots, such as high angle wides with big sweeping movements
  • There are safety issues, so we would need supervision while using it

Intertextuality - Dirt Off Your Shoulder

In this video, the action of brushing your shoulder off is repeated throughout, and as the song became more popular, this action has become very famous all over the world and is know widely associated with Jay-Z. I was thinking that we could reference this action in our own video, for these reasons:

  • The action has conotations of wealth and success, similar to our song, which is also all about money.
  • Jay-Z is one of the most successful and powerful figures in the music industry as an artist and producer, and referencing this action will associate us with Jay-Z and other huge international stars (Lady Gaga etc.)
  • It may also help to widen our audience to fans of hip-hop as they associate our band with an artist they enjoy
An example of where an artist has used subtle intertextuality this way is 3OH!3, who use a logo similar to Jay-Z/Roc-a-fella's diamond, but with more rounded fingers (3 fingers on the left hand, an O in the middle and 3 fingers on the right, 3-O-3)
