Group Meeting: Pictures

Here are some pictures of our group working in our editing room...
In this session we were looking for dancing references from existing boyband videos on youtube and muzu.tv and as well as the dancing, we thought about potential shot ideas and style of our video. (See seperate post of music video references).
We also have a wall in our editing room on which we pin important print-outs such as lyrics, schedules, and of course our picture...

Reference Points For Dance Routine

We are looking through videos that we would like to take inspiration from for our dance routine. Below we have posted some videos that we really like and think we could use different dance moves from different videos in order to create our dance routine.

Audience: 'Just Got Paid' - band name TBC

The genre of this song is distinctly boy band pop, and there is a very clear core target audience for this of teenage girls, and this could be widened to a secondary audience of young girls (6-12). There could also be another audience being the gay community who would like the boy band scene.

Teenage girls:
  • Interests: Clothes, shopping, friends, boys, socialising, gossip, music...
  • Favourite media: Internet, magazines, tv, radio...
  • Music interests: Pop music, charts, boy bands, girl bands
The boy band has many pleasures for girls, primarily, the boys in a boy band will all look good - girls like this! A new boy band will also create topic for conversation amongst our target audience as they can talk about the music, and which member of the band they like best!
Fans of our boy band will construct their own cultural and visual identity by buying into the band - paying for concert tickets and albums, and wearing band merchandise, like t-shirts and hoodies - these are very popular amongst teenage girls...

As our band's music is very mainstream pop, it would hopefully get into the charts and get lots of radio play by being on the A-list at big radio stations. Lots of physical albums would be sold, but it would also be very high up in the download charts as teenagers these day prefer generally to download their music. This is also the kind of music which could be played at teenagers parties for people to dance to.

Band Performance Ideas:

During our group meeting today we came up with the idea of shooting the band performance in a circle instead of the traditional line with the drummer at the back.

Here's an example of the look we mean, with the band set up in a circle facing towards the centre...

This set up allows for lots of interesting shots technically and artisticly, and places each band member as an equal, allowing us to focus on each member of the band individually. This would work really well in our video as all the band members sing the chorus.

We could achieve this set-up really well in our school's Seeward Studio, with plenty of lights from above and lights we could set up around the perimeter of the band.
