6) The practicalities in more detail - when, where, who, how?

When?
Tuesday 12th October 2010 – Seward studio
Learning the choreography and dance routine for the music video with Jazzi.  Me, Ciara, Tom and Hugh will learn the dance in our media lesson and then the boys in the band, Tom P, Tom O, Aaron and Jack will come after school and learn it and we can all go through it together.

Thursday 21st October 2010 – Seward studio
Technical --> going through all our shots, seeing if the framing, lighting, camerawork etc. all looks right and checking if we’re ready to go ahead and shoot.

Saturday 23rd October 2010 – Seward studio
Actual shoot

We made need a few more shooting days if we decide to use another location or something doesn’t look right when we start editing so we could use..
• Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th November 2010
• Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th November 2010

Where?
We want to film our whole music video in one location, the Seward Studio because its got everything we need and is easily accessible for us as its at school and doesn’t cost anything.  We initially did want a bar scene so if we did decide to use another location we would hire out a bar, here are some of the places we’ve been looking at..

Southgate Club - Southgate
http://www.southgateclub.co.uk/

Yum Yums – Stoke Newington
http://www.yumyum.co.uk/

The Pavillion – Muswill Hill
http://www.the-pavilion-cafe.com/

Maze Inn – Oakwood
http://www.amazeinnbar.com/

Who?
How?

5) Which ancillary tasks you plan to create?

We plan to create an album cover and website for the band.

Album Cover
The album cover as it sells the artist and their music.  It brands them and creates an identity for them.  Generally album covers need to be aesthetically pleasing so it catches the audience’s eye and stands out on the shelf ultimately selling the artist’s music.  It has to be obvious what the genre is from the cover in order to attract and appeal the right audience.

In our case, we will use the typical conventions of an album cover as they are a debut band.  We will make it obvious to our core target audience, teenage girls, that they are a pop boy band using these conventions..

• Name of the artist
• Imagery/promotional shots of the band
• Album name
• Colour scheme/theme
• List of the songs
• Barcode
• Name of artist and album repeated on the spine
• The actual CD matches the theme of the album cover

Website
The website is used for the same purpose as the album cover --> to sell the artists music but it is used completely differently.  With a website, there is a lot more you can do to market and promote the artist to their target audience.  The functions our website will serve for our band is..

• Sells their image (mainstream pop boy band)
• Creates an identity and brands them
• Promotes to his target audience
• Allows you to listen to and gives you a taste of their music
• Sells and promotes his songs
• Sells and promotes upcoming live tours
• Links to download singles/albums from iTunes

We will use the website to promote the new single as we can make it start playing automatically so the audience are forced to listen to it.  Then we will add the music video to the website so you see it as you log on and underneath links to download their single and/or album from iTunes so the music is really easily accessible for the audience. We will have a huge picture of the band on the website as this will really appeal to their core audience of teenage girls as to them looks is very important.  On the website, we could have links to ‘Pictures’ ‘Videos’ and ‘Merchandise’ of the band promoting them further and making them audience feel really involved.

We will make it very clear on the website what the genre is and who we’re aiming to appeal to.  We will make it clear that they are a new mainstream pop boy band and that the core audience is teenage girls.  We can create this through colour schemes, fonts, band appearance and costume (clean, shaved, cut hair, nice clothes will attract the female audience), how professional it looks and we could make some of it quite informal eg. the band themselves posting comments on what they’re doing as this will really appeal to teenage girls as they’ll be able to relate to it and will make them want to spend their money on them.

We will have links to the band’s Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Youtube where the audience can leave and receive comments for and about the band.  These social networking sites are also a really good way to appeal to our core audience as teenagers use them all the time and it will help generate word of mouth.

Idea - Continued

We have decided that we may scrap our narrative idea and make our video completely performance based, all in one location. This is similar to Hugh and Tom's lipsync video, although we are going to spend more time on choreography and technicals such as lighting.

Marketing Plan

We plan to have a relatively large marketing campaign comprised of both above the line and below the line strategies. Here is a summary of our plan:

  • A music video of the single, which the audience can link and share on facebook, twitter etc via YouTube.

  • A website for the band, featuring a banner promoting the new single, news, pictures, videos, links to facebook and twitter pages etc, ticket information and merchandise
  • Posters promoting the single in shops such as HMV, and banners and adverts on iTunes and Spotify
  • Billboards and adverts at bus stops

  • We hope to get on a radio playlist on mainstream pop stations such as Capital
  • Reviews, articles, interviews and competitions in teenage magazines such as Cosmo Girl
  • Get the band photographed out partying, and these published in magazines and celebrity sections of newspapers

Back up plan...

If our plan to do Nsync goes wrong and we need to rethink, we will stick to our idea of doing a Boyband, and use this song by the Backstreet Boys. It was released in 1997 and conforms to all of the other rules set out for this project.

We can use the same people to be in the band and use many of the same ideas as we have for our 1st choice such as using a mix of performance and loose narrative, using 2 or 3 locations including the seeward studio and having a choreographed dance routine.

THE LYRICS

"Just Got Paid"

Thank God it's Friday night and I
just-just-just-just-juuuuuuust got paid
(money, money, money, money...)
yeah, ohh...

[CHORUS:]
Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down

[Justin:]
Check the mirror, lookin' fly
Round up the posse, jump in my ride
Radio rockin', hottest jam
Feel the rhythm, pump up the sound
Feelin' so good
Don't you know, I'm just groovin' to the beat
Groovin', yeah, groovin', oh, oh, oh, ohhhh

Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down

[Justin (rapping):]
Yo some people say my solo is impossible
But when I get up on the mic, yo, I'm unstoppable
And it's probable when ya hear our voices laid down
You'll be boppin' your head to this ill tight sound

[Chris (rapping):]
Now I know you thought you had me played (played)
check is in the mail I got it made (made)
And if you'll notice my smile is like Kool-Aid
Cuz I just (just) got (got) paid (paid) uh

[JC:]
On the floor, rockin' to the beat (rockin' to the beat)
All ways, sure looks sweet (sweet thing)
Fine young lady, standin' by (you look fine tonite)
Come on baby, sweet eye delight...
I love the way that you move
Said, you look so sweet
When you're movin' to the beat
I'm tired all these boring parties, baby
Why don't we get on down, let's get on down

Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down

Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right (tell me where the party is)
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down

Say ho
Say ho
Say ho ho
Say ho ho
Say ho ho ho
Say ho
Ohh...

Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right (just tell me where the party is...)
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down (gettin down)

Just got paid, it's Friday nite
Party hoppin', feelin right (having a good time baby)
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down (I'm gettin' down)

I'm getting down, down...
I'm getting down.. yeah..

[Justin (spoken):] Eh, I'm broke

These are the lyrics to the song I've posted them because these are going to be really important when it comes to dance routines so would be helpful for Jazzi to see! Also as a group we need to think of props that we could potentially need by looking over the lyrics and taking words we could play on as the literal meaning of the lyrics is very typical of a boyband.

E.g: Mirror , Something money based, 'booty shakin', 'lets get on down', 'bopping ya head'
Let's get thinking!

1) who the band/ artist are, their name, their image/ identity

We have had a lot of discussion as to how we want out band to look after changing from our original idea, we have now come up with a set idea which we want to propose:

  • We are using the song- Nsync- Just got Paid
  • N Sync was an American boy band who were huge in the 90's
  • Band name: we are currently still working on the band name as everything that we have thought of hasn't been liked by every memeber of our group
  • Its a classic pop boyband
  • Made up of 5 boys- Hugh, Tom P, Aaron, Tom Owen and Jack Mullen
We orignally decided on a boy band of 4 members however due to some of the harmonies and lyrics in the song we've decided to add a further member which will be Jack Mullen.

  • Going to be a modern take on bands such as Nsync, Backstreet Boys and Boyzone

  • We are taking inspiration from bands such as ' The Wanted' and JLS

  • We want it to be a mainstream band that have a broad audience and market

  • The video is very much going to be performace based and concept based

  • We would like to shoot the whole video in the seward studion usuing, smoke machines/ dry ice machine, floor lights and strobe lights.

  • There will be set dance routines- Jazzi Blackborow will be choreographer which has been agreed

  • IMAGE AND IDENTITY

    • Our band are going to be very new, modern and stylish
    • We want to play on 'the look' a lot in order to target the audience and to sell the band
    • There is image is going to be key to selling records, attracting and audience and ultimately to make themselves and chart topping mainstream band
    • We are going to make them very fun and comic for the audience
    • There costume at the start of the video will be suits, scarves, briefcases, tight shirts to 'mock' the city life and reflect cash
    • They will then take pieces of their costume of and the costume we will reveal is: v necked tshirt, low buttoned shirts, looking very rugged/ sexy

    • The band are going to have dance routines, 'the look' , lots of shots of them having fun, the video is all about them.

Audience: 'Just Got Paid' - band name TBC

The genre of this song is distinctly boy band pop, and there is a very clear core target audience for this of teenage girls, and this could be widened to a secondary audience of young girls (6-12). There could also be another audience being the gay community who would like the boy band scene.

    Teenage girls:
    • Interests: Clothes, shopping, friends, boys, socialising, gossip, music...
    • Favourite media: Internet, magazines, tv, radio...
    • Music interests: Pop music, charts, boy bands, girl bands
The boy band has many pleasures for girls, primarily, the boys in a boy band will all look good - girls like this! A new boy band will also create topic for conversation amongst our target audience as they can talk about the music, and which member of the band they like best!
Fans of our boy band will construct their own cultural and visual identity by buying into the band - paying for concert tickets and albums, and wearing band merchandise, like t-shirts and hoodies - these are very popular amongst teenage girls...

As our band's music is very mainstream pop, it would hopefully get into the charts and get lots of radio play by being on the A-list at big radio stations. Lots of physical albums would be sold, but it would also be very high up in the download charts as teenagers these day prefer generally to download their music. This is also the kind of music which could be played at teenagers parties for people to dance to.

    New Track Proposal

We have a new track that we all want to do. We've moved away from indie rock and more towards boy bands/ pop. Here is the track we've chosen:
