THE FIX

We decided on 'The Fix' to be the name of our band, and following that decision we decided on the font 'coalition' which we found on dafont.com

So here are the band images I created using the test shots of the band:

TEST PHOTO EDIT:

Using the test photos of the band that we took on the day of the technical rehearsal I spent some time editing them and creating some images for the band which we may or may not use...

As they were only test photos, the band have not been styled to our specifications, but even so, I still think that these images could be used somewhere in our production - maybe somewhere on the website or album cover...

Here are the edited individual shots of the band: (See next post for band images)

New Location

As well as using the Seward Studio for our video, we've found another location through a friend at school.  We all looked at the website and saw this location is amazing.

This photographic studio has been used for photoshoots with many celebrities such as Cheryl Cole, Kate Moss and JLS and we were lucky enough to get it for free from 10am - 5pm on Saturday 6th November.  Originally we were planning to film the whole video in the Seward Studio and just take the promo shots at Lordship Park but when me and Ciara showed Ms Blackborow the location she really liked it and we realised it was too good a location to not use to shoot when we so easily could.  So instead of shooting in the Seward Studio in the morning of Saturday 6th November and going to Lordship Park in the afternoon, we have cancelled the shoot at the Seward Studio (just shooting there on Thursday) and going straight to Lordship Park on Saturday.

The location has four different levels, each with a different theme which you can see on the website.  I think we can use this alot and make something really effective.  I think using two locations will look so much more effective for our music video.  One location may have got abit boring or repetitive so using Lordship Park will give the video a whole other perspective and will make it look so professional as it is a professional studio.  As the location looks so rich and expensive, we want to play on this having all the boys in suits, breifcases etc. mocking the city lifestyle and in the Seward Studio will be the typical boyband clothes --> boots, tight v-necks, skinny jeans etc.

Test Shots

These are a few test shots we took at our tech rehearsal yesterday. They obviously have not been styled or been put into costumes this was just to give us some ideas about positioning and where each member will be placed.

Costume List

I've typed out a costume list which I will give out at todays tech rehearsals. I've done this so the band can bring in costume and we can then style them from that and it gives them ideas of the sorts of things were looking for.

Hi Janet,
could you amend my studio booking on Thurs 21st Oct from:

so it's now free for afternoon lessons if anyone needs it. Just to confirm it's for a video/photo shoot so we will need a completely empty space, no seating, furniture or anything.
Thank you!

Hi Ciara

Miss B

From: Blackborow, Nicola
Sent: Sunday, October 17, 2010 6:39 PM
To: O'Mahoney, Kevin
Cc: Blackborow, Nicola
Subject: media shoot dates and some links
Hi Kevin, here are the dates that my boyband music video group would like to work in the studio:
1. Thurs 21st Oct (music at latymer)
2. Tues 2nd Nov (Y7 PHSE/Cwm meeting)
3. Thurs 4th Nov (Y7 PHSE/Cwm meeting)
4. Sat 6th Nov
5. Tues 9th Nov (Junior ski trip meeting)
For the Tues/ Thurs sessions, they would like to work from 4pm until whenever you are closing - can you give us a rough idea when that would be for each of those dates so they can plan their shoot? On the Saturday, I've told them you will open at 8, but wasn't sure what time you close?
Thanks for this, they really appreciate it. Just for interest, here's the link to the track they're using, it's by Nsync;
I've got another group shooting up there on Weds 20th Oct after school, but they are finishing at 5.30 so will be out by 5.45. I will supervise all the sessions, and will let you know if they cancel/change any in advance.
cheers,
Nikki

Technical - Extras

Here is some ideas regarding kit that we would like to hire for our shoots:

Haze Machine - £30/day http://www.rkdosoundandlight.co.uk/effects_hire.html

  • This is the one piece of kit that we feel we really need, as it will help us create a more professional looking set
  • It is similar to a smoke machine, but creates a much finer haze that fills the entire room, as opposed to thick, localised clouds
  • When light shines through it, it creates beams in the haze as the light is reflected off of the particles of the cloud

  • Will allow us to create much more dramatic shots, such as high angle wides with big sweeping movements
  • There are safety issues, so we would need supervision while using it

Intertextuality - Dirt Off Your Shoulder

In this video, the action of brushing your shoulder off is repeated throughout, and as the song became more popular, this action has become very famous all over the world and is know widely associated with Jay-Z. I was thinking that we could reference this action in our own video, for these reasons:

  • The action has conotations of wealth and success, similar to our song, which is also all about money.
  • Jay-Z is one of the most successful and powerful figures in the music industry as an artist and producer, and referencing this action will associate us with Jay-Z and other huge international stars (Lady Gaga etc.)
  • It may also help to widen our audience to fans of hip-hop as they associate our band with an artist they enjoy
An example of where an artist has used subtle intertextuality this way is 3OH!3, who use a logo similar to Jay-Z/Roc-a-fella's diamond, but with more rounded fingers (3 fingers on the left hand, an O in the middle and 3 fingers on the right, 3-O-3)

Technical Rehearsal

Technical: First Look

On tuesday we had our dance rehearsal sessions with the band, and not being much of a dancer myself, this gave me a chance to explore the technical functionality of the Seward Studio. As a member of our schools Sound and Lights Team (SALT) along with Tom Poffley (the lead singer in our imaginary boyband) I had already had basic training in the workings of the Seward studio tech, but this extended rehearsal day allowed me to experiement hands-on with the tech...
